7 Student Success Act (H.R.5) Eliminates or combines many programs Expands charter schools Eliminates AYP and HQT provisions Passed by full House in July on partisan vote ACTE was able to get amendment passed by Rep. Benishek (R-MI) to add optional career readiness measure reporting House Legislation

8 Strengthening America’s Schools Act (S.1094) Approved in Senate HELP Committee on partisan vote in June 2013 More structure to accountability reforms than in House ACTE was able to get a bipartisan amendment to require career readiness measures on state and local report cards thanks to Sen. Baldwin (D-WI) Senate Legislation

ESEA Waivers Criticized by some Congressional leaders as inhibiting progress on ESEA reauthorization Some state plans include CTE components (e.g. career readiness definitions, dual enrollment) Waiver renewals were made in August 2013 and most will expire at the end of 2013-14 school year Extensions can go through 2016
