Solutions
2
Solutions a Homogeneous Mixture –two or more substances that are distributed evenly throughout the mixture –Appears to be a single substance
3
Dissolving The process in which particles of substances spread evenly throughout a mixture –Ex) Salt dissolving in water to form a salt water solution
4
Dissolving Two parts –Solute: the substance that is dissolved salt –Solvent: the substance in which the solute is dissolved water
5
Solubility In order for two substances to form a solution, the solute must be soluble, or able to dissolve, in the solvent –Ex). Salt- the solute, is soluble in water- the solvent. Salt dissolves in water.
6
Solubility If the substance is insoluble, it is unable to be dissolved by the solvent and will form a mixture, NOT a solution. –Ex.) Water cannot dissolve oil, so the oil is insoluble in water.
