Unresolved Issue #2: Jewish settlements in the West Bank. How can there ever be an independent Palestine if the West Bank has Jewish settlements in it?

Jewish settlement on a hill in the West Bank Israel started building these settlements after the Six Day War in 1967.

There are about 300,000 Jewish settlers in about 120 settlements living in the West Bank. There are also about 200,000 Jews living in East Jerusalem.

Jews travel freely throughout the West Bank. Palestinians must pass through numerous checkpoints whenever they travel. “We are prisoners in our own land.”

Currently 59% of the West Bank is officially under Israeli civil and security control. Another 23% of it is under Palestinian civil control, but Israeli security control. The remainder of the territory is governed by the Palestinian National Authority

Rabbi Pinhas Hayman was born in Anaheim, Calif., and is now a resident of the Elkana settlement in the West Bank. He says, "Biblically, geographically, politically, the land of Israel -- from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea -- belongs to the Jewish people. It's our right, it's our divine right. And there isn't a force on Earth that is going to remove us from these areas."

Palestinian Response: Intifada “The Shaking” 1987 and 2000: The uprising, revolt by Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip demanding an end to the Occupation

Fares Audeh throws a stone at an Israeli tank. Nine days after this picture was taken, he was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers. Why would a child throw a stone at a tank?

“Get out of our land!” The Palestinians are fighting with the same desperation as the Jewish refugees on the ship Exodus.

How should the government of Israel respond?

Should it listen to the demands of the protestors, or... Should it use overwhelming force to crush the uprising?

A “soldier” of the Indifadah

Israeli soldiers arrest a 10 year old boy. Images like this “go viral” in the Islamic world, reinforcing the belief that Israel & its allies seek to destroy Islam.

Suicide bomber hits Jerusalem bus A Palestinian suicide bomber has killed eight people and injured dozens in an attack on an Israeli bus in Jerusalem.

Israeli/Jewish victims of a suicide bombing attack. Who carries out attacks like these? Hamas, Islamic Jihad...

Seven-year-old boy killed by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip March, 2001

The Israeli army has demolished many Palestinian homes during the Second Intifadah.

Civilians flee their homes during Israeli air raid. Helicopters and bombs bought and paid for with American tax dollars.

Palestinian Response: HAMAS Islamic Resistance Movement

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” Sheik Ahmad Yassin Founder of Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – 1987 It’s goal is to destroy Israel and create an Islamic State

"There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

"The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic land. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. "

“The Islamic Resistance Movement is a Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine“

“Allah is its focus, the Prophet is its model, the Koran its constitution: Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes.”

“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time.”

Total victory vs. Compromise What happened to Yitzhak Rabin?

Israeli Response to Palestinian Terror Attacks

The Gaza Strip is under Palestinian control – Hamas has become the leader in Gaza Israel controls the borders. Palestinians have some independence in the West Bank, but is still mostly controlled by Israel.

The current situation in the West Bank 2.6 million Palestinians 360,000 Jewish settlers 120 settlements A good life for the settlers; a difficult life for the Palestinians

If your policy means you have to treat people like this, is there something wrong with your policy? Or is it necessary?

Israeli army checkpoints, barriers and roadblocks make it difficult for Palestinians to reach schools and hospitals.

Hamas has been in control of the Gaza Strip since 2005. The West Bank is governed by a moderate Palestinian party – willing to compromise

The latest round of violence involved Hamas launching rockets such as these from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

Israel responded with bombing raids and an invasion of the Gaza Strip, seeking to weaken the military capability of Hamas. (2008-2009)

Peace or victory? Jews who believe in their God-given right to all the land do not want to compromise. They seek to control all the land and expel the Arabs. Organizations like Hamas do not believe in compromise. They seek to destroy Israel and create an Islamic State.
