1. STEM Ambassador A STEM ambassador will have a presence within the broader community and communicate enthusiasm for STEM, eg: – Big Bang Ambassador – Liaise with secondary school, eg STEM club, exhibition, classrooms – Organise a trip for college students, eg science museum, field trip, overseas trip – Organise café scientifique event at college

2. STEM Academic A STEM academic will demonstrate academic qualities by involvement in research or further learning, eg: – Submit a piece of research for an EPQ – Enter an essay competition – Complete an additional qualification (eg Open University credits) – Organise a discussion group with college students to discuss articles, books etc. – Attend Smallpeice Trust, UNIQ summer school or EDT Headstart event – Enter an olympiad

3. STEM in Industry Involves a work placement in a STEM industry, eg: – Work experience – Paid or voluntary employment – Nuffield Bursary – Internship – Become a STEM Academy student – Work with a mentor from industry

4. STEM Create A STEM project includes a wide range of initiatives involving sustained application to an initiative, eg: – Develop an idea, through design to manufacture – Enter an invention competition – Gain a CREST award – Enter National Science & Engineering Competition – Develop STEM initiatives in college, eg web site development

5. STEM Futures Demonstrate commitment to learning about STEM and increasing awareness of STEM by attending events and excursions made available through college, eg: – Attend careers talks – Participate in extra-curricular activities eg field trips – Participate in HE or industry visits / talks

6. STEM Sustainability Involves any STEM initiative with a sustainability focus, eg: – Environmental survey of students / staff / college etc – Voluntary conservation work – Conservation project; local, regional or international – Sustainability campaign in college – Plan a green fair for a school / at college – Form a lobby group for a specific local environmental issue

Green Spaces, Cirencester 16th Conservation volunteering / wildlife Surveys Stream dynamics – project around suggestions for river improvements Awareness campaigns – to reduce dog fouling, litter, illegal fires, improve water saving / recycling Research, design and construct: – Bridges, footpaths, raised walkways
