Building an Empire Moscow (small country) Golden Horde- ruled through fear, attacked citizens, eventually were overthrow They ruled Russia for 250 years

Rise and fall of the Czars (Emperor) Ist Czar- Ivan the terrible- cruel/feared During this time war happened every day or 30 years Peter the Great-strong leader Peter started new schools, organized the gov’t, and the army He made Russia into an empire

Fall of the Czars Alexander II-freed the serfs and gave them land to mediate the tension between the rich and poor Bloody Sunday-thousands of serfs were met by troops who fired in the crowd, killing hundreds Duma was established (members elected by the people)
