Assessment Criteria (i) develop, organise and present findings in an appropriate way. (II) use a range of skills and techniques; (iii) show a good knowledge and understanding of the topic or issue to be investigated. (iv) include appropriate coverage of a local/Wales perspective and at least one other country or region.

There is no ‘official’ or ‘right’ way to structure the Individual Investigation.

TitleIntro Main Body Conclusion & Evaluation Bibliography Key Question or hypothesis Cover Wales/ other country or region Topic or issue Outline hypothesis and methods Sections /themes Know/und Skills & techniques Topic or issue Own performance

Title  Phrase the title as a Key Question or a Hypothesis i.e. a statement of what you expect to find out.  Cover the issue, Wales and the other country/region in the title.

Example Key Question  What is being done in Wales and Scotland to promote recycling? Hypothesis  Wales is more effective than Scotland in promoting recycling.

Introduction  Introduce the topic or issue generally  State your hypothesis. What you expect to find out in your investigation about Wales and the other country/region.  Outline and comment on the methods you intend to use in your investigation

Main Body Meet the requirement to cover Wales and the other country or region chosen in balanced and effective way.

Break the topic down into sections RECYCLING WHY RECYCLE CONCLUSIONS - WHICH COUNTRY DOES IT BETTER RECYCLING FACTS AND FIGURES FOR WALES AND SCOTLAND WHAT IS BEING DONE TO PROMOTE RECYLING IN SCOTLAND WHAT IS BEING DONE TO PROMOTE RECYLING IN WALES RECYCLING FACTS AND FIGURES FOR WALES AND SCOTLAND

Based on your original plan, sort out the information you have gathered. Devise your own method to organise your notes e.g. in sections If you print information you can mark with a different colour ink or use a hi-lighter to identify useful sections. SORT AND ORGANISE YOUR RESEARCH

Main Body Introduce the issue and then write about Wales and the other country separately. Write about Wales and the other country/region in each section you go along. This helps to show the similarities and differences between them. If Wales and the other country are covered separately, similarities and differences can be covered in the conclusion.

Print or type using a 12 point standard font Number pages consecutively Start each new section on a new page Produce between 2,000-2,500 words excluding sources.

Placing a heading at the bottom of a page with the following text on the next page (insert a page break!) Submitting an Individual Investigation with pages out of order Avoid using phrases such as "I think", "I guess", "I suppose ".

Bibliography  Make sure you have referenced all of the sources you have used.  Produce bibliography including a comprehensive and detailed list of all sources used. Appendix  Limit what is included in an appendix e.g. one completed copy of a questionnaire or interview used and/or additional relevant information relating to your research e.g. tally chart.

 Sum up what you have found out in your Individual Investigation – about each country/region and if there are any similarities or differences.  Comment honestly on your strengths and weaknesses doing the Individual Investigation e.g. keeping to your action plan or deadlines, how well you carried out research, organised your work and used your sources of information.  How would you have do things differently if you did this Individual investigation again? Conclusion & Evaluation

FINISHING OFF 1.Is my Individual Investigation well presented and organised? 2.Have I checked my spelling and grammar? 3. Have I covered Wales and the other country/region well enough? 4. Are all sources properly referenced? 5. Have I answered my key question or proved my hypothesis?
