6 th Annual John J Murphy Scholarship

John Murphy was a supporter of Food Shippers of America both as a food manufacturer while at Bordon Foods then as the Executive Director for 14 years after his retirement from Borden in 1995. John’s impact and contributions to the organization included: Ambassador for the food industry Facilitated the combining of the rail/3PL and motor carrier conference in 1997 Instrumental in transforming the organization to become more interactive & collaborative by doubling the shipper/receiver participation Voice and visionary of the organization Friend and mentor to hundreds of food logistics professionals Most importantly he understood, progressed and protected the mission and values of the Food Shippers of America to be an educational resource that could be influential in driving change in the industry.

John J Murphy Scholarship Eligibility Requirements Eligible applicants are children/dependents of the Supply Chain departments of Food Shippers of America member companies. H.S. Seniors or current enrollees in undergraduate or graduate program. Additional merit given to Business majors, particularly those in Supply Chain management. Maintain a 3.5 GPA

John J Murphy Scholarship Process Application process was updated to online which proved to be a great success. Applications must be submitted in their entirety by 12/31 Selection is made by sitting Officers and Board Members of the Food Shippers of America. The scholarship is funded solely by the $150 annual dues for companies to be members of the Food Shippers of America.

Evolution of Awards – 2011 – One $5,000 Scholarship – 2012 – Two Scholarships; $5,000 and $2,500 – 2013 – Three Scholarships; $5,000: $2,500 (2), and $1,000 – 2014 – Six Scholarships; $5,000: $3,000 (2) $2,000 (2), and $1,000 2015- Six Scholarships; $5,000: $3,000 (2) $2,000, and $1,000 (2) – 2016 Seven Scholarships; $7500, $5,000, $4,000, $3,000, $2,000, $1,000, $1,000 – Total $78,000 awarded to date
