1 “Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announces prostate cancer diagnosis”

2 Harrisburg (PA) - Gov. Tom Wolf said Wednesday he was recently diagnosed with a mild form of prostate cancer and will be treated in the coming weeks. He declined to specify what his treatment will be, but he said it was minor and won't involve chemotherapy. Wolf (age 67), a Democrat, recently finished a contentious first year in office without getting a full budget deal through the Republican-controlled Legislature. He said he would take a few days off, his first vacation as governor, before starting treatment near his home in the York area. "What I'm going through is treatable and will actually not... interfere with my duties as governor," he said. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. Radiation or surgery to remove the prostate is a common treatment when the disease is confined to the gland. The American Cancer Society says there are about 2.9 million living American men who at some point have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The society says prostate cancer's 15-year relative survival rate is 94 percent.

3 In Other News  Beyoncé is certainly not the first celebrity to cause a stir by inserting race into her art, but there's a reason why her recent actions are resonating. Quite simply, she is one of those stars of color who -- until now -- has been beyond race for the mainstream audience. That was the basis of a recent "Saturday Night Live" skit that portrayed white fans freaking out about her "blackness," as conveyed by her new "Formation" music video and a Super Bowl halftime performance in which her backup dancers dressed in Black Panther-esque outfits. The halftime show has prompted a number of discussions both pro- and anti-Beyoncé.  President Barack Obama has a historic choice to make when it comes to replacing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. With Republicans vowing not to even consider a nominee, the normal rules for a nominee don't apply here. The President could choose a consensus candidate, someone who has already been confirmed, or go for a real ideological fight meant to underscore his differences with his political opponents.
