Mentoring, Not a Unique Concept The word mentor evolved to mean trusted advisor, friend, teacher, and wise person Fundamental form of human development involving the investment of time, energy, and personal know-how in assisting the growth and ability of another person – Socrates & Plato, Hayden & Beethoven, Freud & Jung, Batman & Alfred, Luke Skywalker & Yoda & Obi-Wan, Angel & Joe
