3 IDS&Unitelm IDS&Unitelm (in brief I&U) is a small IT company founded in 1987. 80 people operate in the 4 sites of Padova, Messina, Bologna and Roma. I&U offers solutions for Networking & System integration, IT security, Software Production, Cultural Heritage services, Web, mobile and digital publishing. 3

4 I&U and Cultural Heritage We work in the area of Cultural Heritage from 1994, developing software solutions which support the entire lifecycle for DCH: cataloguing of data & images, revision and validation, management, import/export, publication online and offline. The staff of our DH Service Center includes IT & CH specialists, working together to design sw solutions and offering services as e-learning and on-site training, consultance and support through a multichannel helpdesk. I&U is partner of the Catholic Italian Church (CEI) for the DCH initiatives regarding cataloging & inventory of work of art, architectural assets, archival documents, library documents. 4

5 Our approach to Digital Cultural Heritage Interdisciplinary group: IT and CH specialists of the different areas (art, architecture, archives, librarian) working together. National and international standard as reference for both contents and technology. Covering the entire lifecycle of DCH. Partnership with stakeholders to prototype solutions and verify tools on-the-field. Scalability of software solutions. 5

9 The DCH virtual desktop A simplifed, unique point of access to the DB of different areas, tools of mangement and communication services. 9

10 The Ecumene project A R&D project partially supported by the Parnaso initiative of the Italian MIUR, Minister for Education, University and Research. (30 months in the period 2002-2005) Areas of research:  Descriptive model for objects of different types (work of art, architectural, archiveal, bibliographic) as base for cross-domain search based on the context  Tools and techniques for user profiling, security and copyright protection (e.g. digital watermarking)  3D acquisition and modeling  Architectures for distributed DCH systems Main partners: University of Pisa, Univ. of Messina Visual Computing Lab Pisa – DIAPREM Univ. of Ferrara CEI – Italian Bishop Conference (stakeholder) 10

11 The ICARO project A R&D project approved for partial support by Regione Sicilia - POR FESR 2007-2013 (30 months) Areas of research:  realizing a collaborative, secure and scalable platform based on the sicilian e-infrastructure  using semantic web technologies to create, manage and multichannel of digital multimedia archives  experimenting solutions for digital preservation  prototyping the platform in two applicative areas: Cultural Heritage and Administrative documentation. Main partners: Consorzio Cometa Halley Computing (small company) Keyover (medium company) Diocesi of Catania, Agrigento, Siracusa (stakeholders) 11
