8 What is Norglobal  NORGLOBAL shall strengthen Norwegian research on and with the South.  Consolidating much of the effort within the field of development under a single programme, and through cooperation with other programmes.  Strengthen research for development, through the integration of development perspectives into relevant programmes.  Strengthen the research capacity of developing countries by enhancing research cooperation between researchers based at institutions in the countries in question and leading Norwegian research projects.

11 The GLOBMEK budget has two lines: -to strenghten the development competence within Norwegian institutions, - to support partners from the South in relevant programmes. 12 GLOBMEK The globalisation of the environment, energy and climate research  Objectives  To support research on globalisation of the environment, energy and climate research.  Strengthen the connections South-north.  Increase the knowledge base on globalisation of the environment, energy and climate research in Norway and in the South.  Strengthen Norwegian institutions role as good global partners within these area.

13  NOK 6 millions/year to encourage Norwegian scientists to take a global approach  Special invitation to: Norwegian institutions focusing on effect of climate change and environmental changes. Institutions doing energy related research to develop projects with a focus on globalisation of their research  Social science and humanities  Partners from the South shall contribute to strengthening competence at the Norwegian institution  NOK 5 millions/year to support South-partners in the NORGLOBAL call and in Environment 2015 and NORKLIMA – call.

15 CGIAR fellowships  The primary objective of the fellowship programme is to provide funding for young scientists based at Norwegian institutions that want to stay for up to two years at one of the 15 CGIAR research centers.  Targeting research within the areas fisheries, forestry and agriculture.  Call for proposal is published with deadline 8 June 2011.2 mill.NOK is available for this last call for CGIAR fellowship.  http://www.forskningsradet.no/no/Utlysning/NORG LOBAL/

17 Research collaboration with India: INDNOR  Based on Programme of Cooperation in Science & Technology between India and Norway (2009) and The Norwegian Government’s Strategy for Cooperation between Norway and India (2009)  INDNOR programme (2010-2019)  20 mill. NOK per year for 5+5 years for Indo-Norwegian research collaboration  Administered by The Research Council of Norway  Expressions of Interest: 165 EoIs received on wide range of topics  General Call pre-projects INDNOR  In the areas of: International political issues, climate, environment, clean energy, societal development  24 pre-projects funded in Nov.-Dec. 2010, 20 mill. NOK  Joint-Call with Department of Science and Technology, India  11 research projects under evaluation by RCN and DST  6 mill. NOK from RCN, corresponding amount from DST  Future Calls through thematic programmes  6 million NOK per year for Climate change (2011-13)  Other calls based on input from the Expert Advisory group Appointed in Dec. 2010

18 NORKLIMA (2004 – 2013)  Cooperation with countries in the South – NORGLOBAL  Additional funding has been granted to research projects involving partners from countries in the South.  Research cooperation with China – CHINOR  December 2010: Joint call with CAS on Ecosystem functioning, adaptation and climate-ecosystem interaction  22 MNOK available for funding - 10 applications received  Research cooperation with India – INDNOR  31 Aug 2011: Call for proposals on Climate Change and Water  18 MNOK available for funding  The goal of this call is to increase the Indo-Norwegian research collaboration on the important global challenge of climate change. The main focus is on the climate system; climate trends in the past, present and future; direct and indirect impacts of climate change on the natural environment and society; adaptation; and instruments and policies for mitigation.

19 RENERGI – Clean Energy for the Future  Support for collaboration with China  Funding to encourage bilateral research cooperation with China within the thematic priority areas of the RENERGI programme and the CLIMIT programme  October 2010: 6MNOK was available for pre-projects and network activities  Possible research cooperation with India in 2012 The objective of RENERGI is to develop knowledge and solutions as a basis for ensuring environment-friendly, economically efficient and effective management of the country's energy resources, a highly reliable energy supply and internationally competitive industrial development.

20 Environment 2015 («Miljø 2015», 2007 - 2016) -a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary research programme designed to generate knowledge about key environmental questions and create a foundation for designating future policy  Research cooperation with China – CHINOR. 17 proposals (+ 10 to NORKLIMA), available budget (Environment 2015 part of the call): 23 mill. Kroner  Cooperation with countries in the South. Additional funding granted via NORGLOBAL to 2 research projects involving partners from countries in the South: - SAR Monitoring of the Brazilian Amazon and Central African Rainforests - Cultures of Biodiversity: Perceptions and Practices  Presently the South is not a priority in Environment 2015 calls. Partly due to reduced funding
