Recognizing an Emergency UNUSUAL NOISES SIGHTS ODORS APPEARANCES BEHAVIORS

UNUSUAL NOISES Broken glass Car accidents - screeching tires; crashing metal. Gun fire Explosions Fire alarms Screams, yells, moans, or calls for help. Abrupt or loud unidentifiable sounds, silence.

SIGHTS Blood Fire Unconscious person Choking Things that look out of the ordinary - a stalled vehicle, an overturned pot, a spilled medicine container, broken glass, downed electrical wires.

ODORS Fire/Smoke Gas Odors that are stronger that usual; unrecognizable odors, nauseous smells, natural gas odors.

Unusual Appearance/Behaviors Unconsciousness; difficulty breathing; clutching the chest or throat; slurred, confused, or hesitant speech; unexplainable confusion or drowsiness; sweating for no apparent reason; uncharacteristic skin color, dilated pupils.

Failing to Respond? Panic Fear of catching a disease or getting hurt. Fear of being sued. Unsure of conditions Assuming someone else will help Type of injury/illness..blood, burns; deformed body parts. Not sure when to call 911.

GOOD SAMARITAN LAW Protects against negligence when they give care in good faith without accepting anything in return. It protects people that act the same way that a “reasonable and prudent person” would if that person were in the same situation.
