4 What You Will Need Headsets are recommended Wired connection preferred An Ethernet cable connecting your computer to your ISP Microphone Either built-in or external Can utilize text chat if necessary Speakers Either built-in or external

5 Terminology If you are leading the session, you are a moderator If you are participating in a session, you are a participant Each module on the left is called a panel The area on the right is called the content area

6 Insert Menu Tool Item 1. Click on the add menu item icon 2. Click on Tool Link 3. Type in an appropriate name 4. Select Type: Blackboard Collaborate Scheduling Manager 5. Check “Available to Users” 6. Submit 1

8 Course Session Every course, by default, has a session available Located at top left of Collaborate page Edit room settings or add a link to a content area

21 Invite Guests You have to have allowed guests in Room Attributes Then you can invite guests Guests use this URL to gain direct access to the Collaborate session

28 Audio & Video Panel Can see up to six people on video If not using video, your profile picture (or your name) will be here Audio setup wizard—run before session starts Click to turn your mic off and on Click to turn your video off and on Can close panel to save bandwidth Use Preview mode to see if camera is properly placed

30 Participants Panel Moderators control access/permissions to the audio/video and other features All the people in the session appear in this panel You can also see who is having internet connectivity issues Right-click or double-click on a participant’s name to chat privately with that individual Icons show what tools participants are using

34 Whiteboard and Whiteboard Tools This is an interactive tool that acts like a SmartBoard You can load a PowerPoint and then use the whiteboard tools to mark up the presentation

37 Audio Setup Wizard Best Practice Use the Audio Setup Wizard before each session starts All audio captured in recording (if desired) Tools>Audio>Audio Setup Wizard Or: Steps Select Audio Output Device (how you will hear) Select Audio Input Device (how you will speak)

38 Simultaneous Talkers You can select up to six simultaneous speakers; just make sure they don’t talk over each other.

39 Transmit Live Video Steps Open the Audio & Video panel Click Preview first to see how you appear onscreen Then select Video Important: slower bandwidths need to close the video by clicking on the downward-pointing arrow in the upper left corner

45 Navigation There are many ways to navigate; pick what works for you.

46 Application Sharing Moderator or participant can share Application Entire desktop Click the Application Sharing button Select Share Desktop or choose a specific application Click Share The shared application displays in the Content Window

47 Web Tour The Moderator is only individual who can start a Web Tour Click the Web Tour button Type a URL and hit Enter The webpage appears in the Content Window Suggestions Good idea to check off “Follow Me” Pulls participants to the page moderator is on Send a clickable URL to the Chat Panel for participants Can bookmark or save

48 Session Recording Session setting- enabled when session is created Recording reminder at start of session Moderator only Start recording Pause recording at any time Recording in progress

49 Session Recording VERY IMPORTANT For a recording to process, every participant has to exit the session. Remove lingering participants by selecting Remove Participant from the dropdown menu.
