1 Short Answer Scaffold

2 Answer both questions using TS/CD/CM/CS format. Count out 10 lines for each question and stay within that limit. Write the question above each response. 1.Pick one character from “The Necklace.” Explain whether they are sympathetic or unsympathetic. Sympathetic means likeable 2.What is the story’s main theme? Or, What is the story’s message about ambition? If choosing your own theme, remember to include an abstract noun and make it a complete sentence Use at least one vocab word. Edit for compound sentences (NO comma splices or run-ons should be present!) SHORT ANSWER RESPONSES, “THE NECKLACE”

3 The character NAME from “NAME OF SELECTION” is SYMPATHETIC/UNSYMPATHETIC (pick one) because he/she is QUALITY (Use a VOCAB word from your list). Introduce quote with context (summarize a little bit), “THEN CITE THE MOST IMPORTANT QUOTE HERE.” When name of character “pick out an important verb from the quote,” this demonstrates quality because explain your inference/what the quote implies. Thus, this is unsympathetic/sympathetic behavior since (summarize what makes this quality admirable/unadmirable). The tortoise from “The Tortoise and the Hare” is sympathetic because of his tenacity (VOCAB). To illustrate, the hare boasted throughout that he would win easily because of his speed, but “Slow and Steady walked and walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line” (paragraph 4). When the author writes that tortoise “walked and walked” and “never, ever stopped,” this showed tenacity and determination; the repetition implies the way was long and difficult, with many opportunities to stop; however, the tortoise was not deterred. Thus, the character is sympathetic since determination is admirable; this underdog story continues to inspire people to this day. TEMPLATE/EXAMPLE
