7 AAMP Academic Achievement Monitoring Program Our mission is to ensure learning for all students, all day, everyday!

8 What is AAMP?  A cademic A chievement M onitoring P rogram  Aims to ensure success for ALL students  An intervention program that requires teachers to identify struggling students and get them the help they need through required after school help sessions

9 Initiation  If a student is earning a D or F in ANY class, a classroom teacher will initiate the AAMP placement process with a letter and teacher-student conference.  The student will then conference with the grade level administrator or counselor.  Finally, the student will bring the AAMP letter home to inform his/her parents.

10 Student Requirements  Students must attend AAMP after school help sessions.  AAMP students may not participate in any other after school activities EXCEPT for help sessions.

11 Release Request When ALL grades are brought up to at least a C, the student may request to be released from AAMP.

13 Why a Read Aloud?  Build community through common experience  Promote acceptance of diversity  Explore themes of empathy and relationships  Refer to shared text when having class discussions  Consider and discuss real-life situations and solving problems

14 Essential Questions How can walking in someone else’s shoes help me better understand others? How do different relationships affect my life? How do you see the world differently in black and white versus color?

15 Some Sensitive Material  The narrator is a young girl who has Asperger’s Syndrome.  The text refers to other students who are on the Autistic Spectrum.  The story includes reference to the death of a sibling and a parent / teacher in a middle school shooting.
