Testosterone
5
External Organs 1.Testes AKA Testicles – two small glands; release testosterone and produce sperm oIn pouch because want to remain cooler than the rest of the body o95.6 degrees – cooler by 3 degrees 2.Scrotum – external skin sac; holds the testes 3.Penis – located just above testes; composed of spongy tissue and blood vessels. Because of this, when blood flows to penis, this is what causes penis to become erect. oErections occur more frequently during puberty and can occur for no reason – DRASTIC HORMONAL CHANGES oThe older you get, the less frequent you have them due to less testosterone

Stages of Testosterone
7
Beginning stages of Puberty Hormonal Changes semen (fluid that contains sperm) released during sleep… Nocturnal Emission

Internal Organs Path of Sperm: 1.Develops in Testes (Seminiferous Tubules) 2.Matures in Epididymus (Finished developing) 3.Vas Deferans (4-6 weeks later) 4.Urethra (ejaculation)
9
Internal Organs continued… Cowper’s Gland Lubricates/Cleans urethra during sexual arousal Produces secretions known as pre-ejaculate Prostate Gland Controls flow of urine Prostate and Seminal Vesicles form semen during sexual arousal
10
Maintain 1.Bathe 2.Protective Equipment 3.Abstain sexual “behaviors” (only 100% effective way of preventing STDs) 4.Self Examinations (pg. 450 testicular exams) 5.Regular check-ups
