SEC: Securities and Exchange Commission: regulated stock market and prevent fraud FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation: provided government insurance for bank deposits

AAA: Agricultural Adjustment Act: plan that paid farmers not to raise certain crops to lower crop production. Helped farmers. NIRA: National Industrial Recovery Act: allowed business, labor, and government to cooperate in setting up rules, known as codes of fair competition for each industry.

NRA: National Recovery Administration: urged consumers to only buy from companies who signed agreements with the NRA. Controlled prices and production. HOLC: Home Owners Loan Corporation: bought the mortgages of homeowners behind on payments and restructured them with longer terms and lower interest rates.

FCA: Farm Credit Administration: set up to help farmers refinance their mortgages. CCC: Civilian Conservation Corps: gave unemployed men aged 18-25 the opportunity to work with the national forestry service to plant trees, fight fires, and build reservoirs. (3 million men)

FERA: Federal Emergency Relief Administration: created to channel money to help state and local agencies fund relief projects. CWA: Civil Works Administration: hired workers and put them on the government’s payroll. Jobs in construction of airports, schools, parks, etc.

TVA: Tennessee Valley Authority: built hydroelectric plants and dams aimed at improving the Southern states PWA: Public Works Administration: gave jobs in construction of airports, schools, parks, etc.

WPA: Works Progress Administration: created jobs for workers, such as artists, musicians, writers, etc. NLRB: National Labor Relations Board: guaranteed workers the right to organize unions without employer interference.

CIO: Committee for Industrial Organizations: organized labor unions. Social Security Act: provided security for the elderly, unemployed workers, and other needy people. Provided monthly retirement benefits and unemployment insurance.

NYA: National Youth Administration: provided job training for unemployed youth and part-time jobs for needy students.
