INTRODUCTION Training sessions organized within the SMC framework have achieved better results in its implementation in 2015. 2

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS (I) Orientation and planning with the regions and health districts concerned; Review of implementation tools; Designing training manuals tailored to the context in country; Validation of micro-planning at National, regioinal and district level; Cascade training of the various implementation actors. 3

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS (II) Those training sessions have helped to achieve better results in this campaign; However, efforts are still needed in order to improve the implementation of seasonal malaria chemoprevention. 4

STRENGTHS (I) Held a workshop with a select group of national and international experts and led by a Consultant, in order to design training manuals; All implementation actors from central to peripheral level were trained in SMC: cascade training of Master trainers, national trainers, head nurses, community distribution (CD) supervisors, fixed point SP+AQ administration workers, community distributors and town criers. 5

STRENGTHS (II) Reproduction and distribution of training manuals at all levels. Availability of training manuals at all levels. 6

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT (I) Different understanding in the use of the SMC Register; some have used the same register for all 4 cycles, others have used a different register for each cycle, or each town; Inadequacies in the SMC Register and Tally Sheet; Confusion in the use of the words vomiting and regurgitation Need to reduce the number of tools used by the community distributors in view of their level of education 7

OUTLOOK Review the training manuals and other tools; Standardise all information given to the different actors during the different training sessions; Training of all DMT members in 2016. 8

CONCLUSION Many efforts have been made by the MOH with support from Malaria Consortium in the implementation of SMC in 2015. However, challenges still lie ahead in order to improve implementation. So, taking into account problems identified in 2015 will allow for better results to be achieved with SMC. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION 9
