The OGC has not generally focused on geosemantics and interoperability other than a few targeted projects –Geosemantics Interoperability Experiment –Geosemantics Domain Working Group –A thread in some OGC IP Activities –OGC Naming Authority –GeoSPARQL But many member organizations are dealing with semantics and geosemantics OGC Semantics Work

Making Location Count... Without vocabularies, we cannot communicate And forget “real” content interoperability For the first 3 years of OGC existence, focus was on the Abstract Model, semantics, and vocabularies –What is a coordinate? –What is a Point? –What is a feature?

32 Making Location Count... OGC Naming Authority In April of 2008, the IETF/IESG approved the OGC NID/URN proposal. The OGC urn designation is registered with IANA and is documented in RFC 5165 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc5165.html ). (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc5165.htm A requirement for having a registered urn is that the OGC must have a naming authority. This authority is responsible for reviewing and registering any proposed OGC urn usage. At the June 2008 Potsdam meetings, the TC and the PC formally approved constituting the OGC Naming Authority (OGCNA) as a subgroup of the Technical Committee.
