Solubility Lab Aim: To determine the solubility of the compound KO 2 LAID in water?
2
To determine the solubility of compounds in water? How much solute can be dissolved in 100 ml of water? In this experiment you will determine the solubility of several compounds. C 12 H 22 O 11 MgSO 4 NaHCO 3 CaCO 3
3
To determine the solubility of compounds in water? This experiment contains the use of some potentially dangerous chemicals. The use of goggles is required at all times during this class. There is no exceptions to this rule. The use of gloves and aprons are also strongly suggested.

To determine the solubility of compounds in water? Materials Sample compound 140 ml beaker with 100ml of water Triple Beam Balance / Digital Scale Sample Boat Metal spatula Glass stirring rod Thermometer

To determine the solubility of compounds in water? Instructions 1.Record the Name, Chemical Formula, and physical properties of your sample compound. 2.Determine the mass of your sample in the sample boat and record your measurements 3.Fill the 140 ml beaker with 100 ml of water. 4.Measure the temperature of the water in the beaker and record. 5.Using the spatula take a small amount of your sample into the beaker of water. 6.Use the glass stirring rod and mix the water and sample until the solid completely dissolves. 7.Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you can no longer get the sample to dissolve. 8.Measure the mass of your remaining sample 9.Subtract your this mass from your starting mass (taken in step 2). 10.Record the difference. The amount of your sample that dissolved in the water.

To determine the solubility of compounds in water? Extension Questions What was the solvent in this experiment? What was the solute? How much solute were you able to dissolve in the water? What might you do to get more solute to dissolve in the water? What do you think would happen if you changed the temperature of the water?
