Different Purposes for Web Pages Education –Content must be timely, accurate and appealing. Can also provide feedback, maintain records (IC) and can also assess learning. Entertainment and News –What are some of your reasons for visiting these sites? –You must first identify the entertainment/news that will appeal to your audience. Then you must decide if you can create your own content, or if it is content that you must purchase

Business (electronic commerce/ e-commerce) –Have you ever shopped online? Where at? –You will find valuable information like store contact information and locations, prices, purchasing portal, services/products, policies and procedures and online support to customers. Business-to-Consumer (B2C)- are transactions that take place between an online business and an individual consumer. Business-to-Business (B2B)- Transactions between 2 businesses. Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C)- Business transactions between consumers. –It is important to decide which technologies you would need on your page: Shopping cart and credit card processing technologies for example

Today’s Lab Research 5 of your favorite websites and 2 websites that you find lacking –In a short paragraph for each website include: a screen shot of the website (Alt+Print Screen then in word Ctrl+V) Identify what type of website it is (C2C,B2B, B2C, educational, etc.) What makes the website a good one ( think about what we discussed in the last two pages) What do you think could be better about the website?

Meta Tags- special codes in websites that contain keywords and description Search Engine Optimization (SEO)- designed to optimize the chances of pulling a webpage into a search engines results list –Tools: meta tags, descriptive title, relevant inbound links from other sites and clear text Many pages pay search engines to pull their result at the top of the page, called sponsored placements. Search directory: builds it’s webpage interaction by using human interaction. –Website owners submit their information to the directory, then it is reviewed by the search directory editors Portals: Websites that offer a starting point to accessing information –General consumer portal: offers email, search services, chat, news sports, maps and online shopping. – Personal portal: like MyYahoo! –Vertical portal: like USA.gov or Farms.com-gives information about specific interests –Corporate portal: runs a company’s internet and allows access to the employs and business partners.
