3 Conflict Resolution Skills (CN) Negotiation Compromise Collaborate Is the process of talking directly to the person to resolve a conflict When both sides in a conflict agree to give up something to reach a solution that will satisfy everyone When a relationship is built with another person as you work toward a common goal

4 Conflict Resolution Skills (CN) Mediation Neutrality Talk Strategy Is resolving conflicts by using another person(s) to help reach a solution that is acceptable to both sides A promise from mediators to not take sides during a conflict A strategy that will help you remember steps of conflict resolution through negotiation

5 Conflict Resolutions Strategies What is Conflict???....a disagreement between people What is Resolution???....an agreement between people Its always better to work out a solution that makes everyone happy The main 2 strategies are called “Negotiation” and “Mediation”

6 9 Warning Signs of Conflict Raised voices Dirty looks Gossip/rumors Name-Calling or insults Racial slurs The silent treatment Certain gestures In your face attitude Others taking sides Be aware and recognize when these signs occur!!!

7 T.A.L.K. Strategy T….Take a time-out before you begin negotiating A….Allow each person to tell his or her side of the story without being interrupted L....Let each person ask questions of the other in a calm and polite way K….Keep brainstorming until a fair solution is reached

8 When Conflicts Get Out of Hand… The best way to resolve a conflict is in the early stages If a conflict is not managed well, it can escalate to something worse such as violence Teens in conflicts often get angry and don’t yet understand how to manage their emotions The best way to manage conflicts is to recognize the signs

9 Activity/Exit Slip Pretend your friend stole something that belongs to you. What skills and/or strategies would you use to resolve the conflict. Write your response that is at least 1-2 paragraphs long. Make sure to include at least 2 vocabulary words or 2 strategies in your response.
