Our Current Reality Check Maintenance costs for ball field / soccer turf averages between $17k - 25k per year! It costs $70 per person / per year to maintain parks; City recovers only $7 per person / per year from property tax! (2/3 of property tax collected in the COR is from commercial property) 1 hour of soccer play = 2.5 hours of turf wear! 1 hour of softball play = 1.75 hours of turf wear! The cost to build an unlit soccer / ball field ranges between $200k - $350! Reality: the business of Parks & Recreation is changing!

Fund your future Approximately $100,000 per year is generated from the “per participant” coalition member fee 50% is placed in the park maintenance general fund to offset the $2.5 million annually spent on sports fields 25% is placed in a general park CIP account to fund improvements & upgrades (as recommended by the department) 25% is placed in the Youth Sports Coalition account to fund projects recommended by the Coalition and approved by Commission/City Council
