3 Ordinance #10-08 An Ordinance amending and restating Chapter 7, Article IV. Trees of the Code of the City of Williamsburg ▫Intent is to identify and designate heritage, memorial, specimen, and street trees on public and private property and to establish a Heritage Tree Program. ▫Defines heritage, memorial, specimen, and street trees. ▫Approves and adopts the City Heritage Tree Program ▫Restricts removal or destruction of heritage trees on city property.

4 Heritage Tree Program Established by adoption of Ordinance #10-08 Program Goals: ▫Establishes a process of designating heritage trees located on either public or private property. ▫Encourages proper maintenance, care and protection of heritage trees ▫Informs/educates the public regarding the notable tree resource in the City. ▫Increases public awareness of the enviromental benefit of heritage trees and trees in general. ▫Establishes criteria for heritage tree nominations. ▫Includes a nomination form for use by any resident, property owner or business owner of Williamsburg. ▫Establishes a Heritage Tree Committee to review nominations and/or to make nominations.

5 Committee Members 1.Tony Craig: A certified arborist, earned a degree in arboriculture & park management from the University of Massachusetts. He currently serves as the Arborist for The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and has been with the Foundation for the past 18 years. 2.Matthew Trowbridge: A certified arborist, earned a forestry degree from Virginia Tech. He currently serves as the Arborist for William & Mary and has been with the college for over 21 years. 3.Will Fidler: City Landscape Superintendent
