ANLTC CONUL STAFF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

The Academic and National Library Training Co-operative (ANLTC) was founded in 1995. It became a sub-committee of CONUL in 2013 and was renamed ANLTC (CONUL Staff Training & Development). The committee is made up of the senior staff in member libraries who have responsibility for staff training and development. Brief History

The aim of ANLTC is to identify training and development needs within member Irish academic and national libraries in order to form the basis of an ongoing co-operative training and development programme. This training supplements each institution’s own programme and through consultation aims to offer a wide range of training opportunities to library staff at an economical rate. Co-operative training also enables staff to meet colleagues from other institutions to exchange experience. PURPOSE

To engage collaboratively to enhance the delivery of staff training and development by: Developing collaborative and innovative approaches to the delivery of staff training and development. The dissemination of information, best practice and shared experience. Pursuing collaborative procurement of staff training and development services (e.g. SILS). Influencing policy in the area of staff training and development of library staff. Liaising as appropriate with the Consortium of National & University Libraries (CONUL) to inform staff training and development strategies and policies. Representing the interests of ANLTC regionally, nationally, and on similar bodies. Seeking funding opportunities, for the development of staff training and development programmes by the consortium Terms of Reference

Swets Research Award – current recipients will complete their research in June 2014. Topic is ‘Strategic mobile library development: the place of library apps and the options for creating them’. Library Assistant Awards – poster competition 2012 Job exchange programme (Library Ireland Week) Annual Reports with fiscal information and course evaluations have been provided since 1995 ANLTC currently manages its own website http://www.anltc.ie and is in discussion with CONUL about incorporating it with the CONUL websitehttp://www.anltc.ie Other Activities

Dwindling Training Budgets and the challenges this poses in terms of running courses which may have small uptake but which are very relevant in terms of the development of required skill sets The difficulty of running courses at locations outside Dublin - is this having a negative impact in terms of the numbers attending? Could Online Training be one possible solution to reducing budgets and keeping the cost of attendance at training events and travel costs down? Issues Identified

Need for a national conference for academic library staff as INULS Conference is currently in abeyance and IUISC has ceased (should CONUL organise this?) Representing CONUL on staff training & development and CPD committees e.g. LAI Need to get input from other CONUL groups re training needs Issues Identified
