4 Terminology Fact (usually the fact is the first one). This is the only one which includes measurements Subject area Fields of type “measurement” (yellow rectangle at beginning) Field of type “description” (descriptive value) Dimensions Subject area

7 Introduction In order to be able to join two subject areas the following three conditions must be met: 1. There must be at least one common dimension among the two subject areas 2. Descriptive fields must come from the common dimensions 3. Measurement fields come from the facts The above will become clear throughout the presentation and example.

9 We will now do an example where we combine two different subject areas: Fulfillment Fines and Fees The common dimensions are: Loan Details Loan Policy Example

10 The reason we want to combine subject areas is because we want information from both of the subject areas. We want our report to include: Transaction Amount from subject area “Fines and Fees”. Number of loans from subject area “Fulfillment”. Example

12 Enter Alma Analytics and create new analysis Create the report - Step one

13 Create the report - Step two Select the first of the two subject areas you wish to combine First we will choose “Fines and Fees”

14 Select the icon “Add / Remove subject areas” Create the report - Step three

15 Select the second desired “subject area” Create the report - Step four part one Now we choose “Fulfillment” We already chose “Fines and Fees”

17 Take note of common and non-common dimensions in each subject area Create the report - Step five “Loan Details” and “Loan Policy” are common dimensions to both subject areas Fact Non- common dimensions Fact

18 Take note of which fields are measurements Create the report - Step six Any field with a yellow rectangle at the beginning is a measurement. Measurements are located only in facts. Facts are the first in the list The measurements will appear in the fact of the subject area (in this case “Fines and Fees Transactions)

19 Add fields. We will now add the fields which we want to display and / or filter on in the report As stated in the beginning of this presentation we can add: 1. All fields which are measurements 2. Fields which belong to common dimensions (in this case all fields under dimensions “Loan Details” and “Loan Policy”) Create the report - Step seven

20 Create the report –columns in the report Fields from dimension “Loan Details” are descriptive and come from a common dimension which is present in both subject areas Fields from fact “Fines and Fees Transactions” come from subject area “Fines and Fees”. Field “Transaction Amount” is a measurement Fields from fact “Loan” come from subject area “Fulfillment”. Fields “Loans” and “Loan Days” are (like “Transaction Amount”) measurements.
