Weather & Climate By: Madison Sholtis, Mayte Pompa, and Zachary Green
2
The Difference Between Climate and Weather The difference between climate and weather is that climate happens over a long period of time. The weather is heat, air pressure, winds and moisture for a certain day.
3
Tropical Climate Zone The Tropical Climate Zone is right around the Equator. The Tropical Climate Zone is mostly found between the Tropic Cancer and Capricorn. The Tropical climate zone is hot, steamy and rainy.
4
Temperate Climate Zone Temperate Climate Zone is a synonym for moderate. The weather in temperate climates is never too extreme.
5
Desert Climate Zone For deserts, usually the average rainfall for the entire year is less than 10 inches. Deserts often receive full sunlight because there are no clouds to filter out the sun’s rays. Some famous deserts include the Sahara in West Africa and the Mojave in the United States.
6
Polar Climate Zone Polar climates are the coldest climates on earth. The Polar Climates are located at the top and bottom of the earth.
7
Types of Precipitation - Rain Rain is very interesting sometimes. For rain to fall snow falls into warm air and melts into rain. If clouds are white they have a little moisture. If they are dark they have a lot.
8
Types of Precipitation - Sleet Sleet is like little pins and needles falling. For sleet to fall snow melts then refreezes.
9
Types of Precipitation-Snow Stratus clouds can bring rain or snow.Snow falls by falling into freezing air and never melts on the way down.
10
HURRICANES Hurricanes can cause property damage if there is a difference in the air.Winds can become violent heavy rains and hard wind began as thunder storms.A hurricane is when strong wind and very heavy rains come but the middle of the hurricane is peaceful.
11
TORNADOES Tornados occur when there are extreme differences in hot and cold winds.Tornadoes can travel for miles. When tornadoes reach the ground the intense winds and sudden drop in air pressure can shatter buildings.
12
LIGHTNING Lightning is made by ice crystals rubbing together to create a charge to shock and create lightning. Lightning strikes 100 times a minute.
13
DROUGHTS Droughts occur when there is not enough rain. They can dry the land. Droughts can also start fires in the forest. During a drought people need to stop using too much water.
14
71% of the earth’s surface is covered in water. Because water is vital to all known forms of life, water is even found within plants and animals - including humans! In the water cycle, water falls to earth as precipitation (rain, snow, hail, sleet, ice, ect.)
15
Weather’s beauties Weather is beautiful and nice and it can occur all over the world.
