The Industrial Revolution Time period when the workplace moved from the home and farm to the factory. What caused this? 1. Improved methods of farming 2. The population explosion 3. Energy invention – using water for power, steam engine, etc.

It all starts in England! Why Britain? 1. Britain had many natural resources 2. Had a large work force (free to work now that many didn’t have to farm) 3. Britain had lots of economic power & $ 4. Britain had a stable government & could support science & new industry

What were the 1 st Factories? Textile mills for spinning cloth Located near a water source for power Later powered by steam engines Greatly improved production time!

Improved Transportation? Turnpikes – private roads that charged a fee to use them Canals – to link waterways Steam locomotive – to carry goods faster Steam Boat – faster water transportation

How did this change the world? Many inventors began to create numerous machines that sped up production More goods & services were available – people began to live in a more relaxed lifestyle! Industrialized countries became more wealthy & powerful than unindustrialized nations – the balance of world power began to shift. If you had factories you were powerful! If you didn’t, watch out!!!!
