1 All about Learning Disability

2 A learning disability (LD) is associated with the neurological aspect of the body. Put simply, learning disability is because of the function of the brain. Children having learning disability are smart enough as the normal ones. But when it comes to reading, spelling, reasoning, writing, recalling, etc. such children poorly endowed.

3 It is important to note that a learning disability stays with the individual for life. Children having this issue can improve and succeed in studies, etc. provided they get the proper support. Learning disabilities are generally recognized within the child is in school. Do not confuse this disability with learning problems. These are because of handicaps in sensory and motor system in the body, or emotional disturbance or mental retardation, or economic advantages.

4 Different types of LD Efforts need to be made to make children with LD learn better. Professionally trained people can do the job training these children. The common LDs that are experienced among children are dyslexia, dyscalculia, non verbal learning disorders, language processing disorder, etc.

5 Broadly speaking, if the child has any of these problems, they should be taken for appropriate medical advice. What are the symptoms of LD that can be found among children for which they should be examined by a professional?

6 The child finds it challenging to learn simple concepts. And, as their performance is not on par with other students, they struggle. They find it difficult to read because of the necessary skills in learning. The disability associated with reading is known as dyslexia, which affects the reading and language processing abilities. Because of this, they cannot read fluently, they find it difficult to recall, spell and may not speak fluently. Of course, along with this disability some other type can loss may be there.

7 They might find it difficult learn to understand numbers and facts in mathematics. Having this disability, the kinds will have low comprehension of math symbols. They may not be able to memorize and arrange numbers. The child finds it difficult to keep the notebooks, textbooks etc, organized. Often they tend forget to do so.

8 If problems discussed in the preceding paragraphs are found, it is important to refer the child to professional school psychologist or a professional specializing in learning. These professionals execute some tests on the child to find whether they have any learning disability. Further, they would find what the child can do independently. That is, they identify their strengths. This would help so that the child is advised to focus on the area where they have the strength.

9 The child can work with an individual professional and learn things. Alternatively, such students go to special classes. It is important to send these children to the regular classes without causing any harm to their normal peers. And, they can participate in co curricular and extra- curricular activities.
