Introduction An intimate relationship exists between man and plants. Flowers are the loveliest objects on earth. Floriculture has become one of the important high value agricultural industries in many countries of the world The top ten largest flowers producing countries in the world are 1. Netherlands 2. United States 3. Brazil 4. Sweden 5. Denmark 6. Malaysia 7. India 8. Switzerland 9. Cambodia and 10. Australia. The floriculture termed as “Golden Revolution” fast emerged as an income generating and foreign exchange earning potential in the field of agro activity in the country.

Early History of Floriculture There are about 90 Jasmine species are found in India, out of these only 20 spices area under cultivation in South India. There are three are used for commercial cultivation. The used species are I.Jasminum sambac (Gundumalli or Madurai Malli), II.Jasminum auriculatum (Mullai) and III.Jasminum grandiflorum (Jathimalli/ Pitchi).

Flowers are symbolic of beauty, love and tranquility. “Flowers speak a million on unspoken words”. Besides their aesthetic value they are important for their economic uses, for cut-blooms, for extracting perfumes and other products. They are the best “ambassadors” of good will. Data Collection and Methodology The collection of data from 2002-03 to 2011-12. For the present study, the statistical tools were employed to assess the growth performance of Jasmine flower in India.

Objective To study the growth and performance of area, production and productivity of jasmine in Madurai District, Tamil Nadu.

Conclusion This study shows that the area, production and productivity of jasmine have increased over the period of study. The component elements production effects in Madurai district is higher than Tamil Nadu. This production effects indicate the state government should encourage the farmers to cultivate and commercialized floriculture in local and district level industries. Various steps are taken up to improve the quality of the flowers. The state government paying attention to the quality in plantation, forming the association, better resource management, financial assistance and making market support to the jasmine growers.
