5 Analog Radio - Ongoing work >Assessing proposals for variations to Licence Area Plans (LAPs) >new repeaters >changes to technical specifications of existing transmitters >adding community services >Frequency assignments for: >FM radio (self-help) retransmissions >Special event narrowcasting licences (mostly radio but a few TV too)

6 Analog Radio – AM to FM conversion project >Commercial radio industry has sought conversion of AM services in solus licence areas to FM band frequencies >Minister asked ACMA to give priority and proposed conditions >ACMA currently preparing a revised AM to FM conversion policy >Draft policy and first draft LAP variations to be released concurrently in the next few months >33 licence areas being considered >Key technical issues: >Frequency availability >Potential coverage differences

7 Digital Radio – regional areas >Digital Radio Planning Committee established for industry, the ACMA and the Department to work collaboratively towards rollout of digital radio in regional Australia >BSPS is working within the Technical Sub- Committee to analyse planning options >Canberra and Darwin trials to be first areas to be formally planned >Scope for some variations to metropolitan area Digital Radio Channel Plans to lift restrictions needed previously to protect co-channel TV services Digital Radio – metropolitan areas

8 Digital TV - Ongoing work >Assessing proposals for variations to Television Licence Area Plans (TLAPs) >Channel changes for Apollo Bay (Vic) >Changed feed arrangements for Springsure (Qld) >Minor changes to TLAP for Howqua and Genoa (Vic) - but no actual service change. >Consultation draft TLAP released 14 July 2016 >Comments close 12 August 2016 >Frequency assignments for: >TV (self-help) retransmissions

9 Digital TV – 6 th channel >In re-planning as part of the digital dividend process we included additional capacity often referred to as the 6 th channel >At RadComms 2014, the Minister said “In the short term, to allow for this transition to MPEG-4, the Government intends to free up the spectrum known as the sixth channel to assist in the testing and migration to this more efficient technology.” >The remaining community TV stations are scheduled to vacate the 6 th channel upon expiry of their licences at the end of 2016 >The ACMA awaits proposals to make use of the 6 th channel and stands ready to assist where practicable. http://www.malcolmturnbull.com.au/media/radcomms-2014-spectrum-in-the-age-of-digital-innovation
