ERRAC PLENARY – Brussels – 12.05.2011 4. NOISE AND VIBRATION ROADMAP DEVELOPMENT (1) Keeping the acoustic performance of the system (train and infrastructure) throughout its whole life Leaders Pascal Fodiman SNCF / Industry –Cost effectiveness of solutions for an industrialized implementation in commercial and operational conditions –Monitoring and maintenance of the system (rolling stock and infrastructure) from an acoustic point of view A new breakthrough in noise reduction - minus 5-10 dB or more! LeadersJens Nielsen, Chalmers / Industry –Rolling noise revisited –More research on aerodynamic noise, generation and control / Improved prediction methods and design solutions for aeroacoustics of high speed trains –Target annoying noise, tonal noise - Further reduction for traction noise / equipment noise / screech / squeal –A system approach for noise reduction –Demonstrator: Green Silent European Train (Real train where green solutions are implemented and tested in operation, low noise and other environmental friendly solutions; energy efficiency, design for environment, etc) –Out of the Box innovative initiative for railway noise solutions

ERRAC PLENARY – Brussels – 12.05.2011 4. NOISE AND VIBRATION ROADMAP DEVELOPMENT (2) Sustainable sound quality LeadersIndustry / Florence Margiocchi SNCF –How to fulfil noise action plans criteria with efficient control at source / by controlling noise emission –Bearable noise level follow up - the comfort for the passengers have to improve as passenger comfort is improved on competitive modes of transport such as cars, planes and busses. –Develop innovative requirement for interior noise to improve sound quality –Special focus for light weight vehicles and VHS Ground borne vibration: towards a better knowledge for control LeadersBernd Asmunsen DB / KUL? –Knowledge of complexity propagation paths for vibration –Particular situations of combination of noise and vibration
