4 The animals of Australia The animals of Australia There are many different species of wildlife in Australia. Marsupials (有袋类) are the most successful group in Australia. This group includes kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, Tasmanian wolves (塔斯马尼亚狼), Tasmanian devils (袋獾), and many others. The platypus (鸭 嘴兽) and the echidna (针鼹) are egg - laying mammals. There are also numerous different species of birds. Some of them are cockatoo ( 鹦 鹉 ), kookaburra (笑翠鸟), lyrebird (琴鸟), the flightless emu (鸸鹋), and several types of parrots. 5 Bilby ( 袋狸 ) The Bilby is a small nocturnal creature found mainly in Northern Australia. They have large ears like rabbits and eat small insects and various plants.

6 Koala Koalas are small bear like creatures who live along the east coast of Australia. However, koalas only like to eat a small percentage of the trees found around Australia. Koalas have hard black noses, with sharp claws and a thick furry coat and can grow to a weight of about 10 kg. Most of their time is spent asleep in the trees, which is the best place to see a koala.

7 Dingo ( 澳洲野犬 ) Dingos are found in various areas across Australia, it makes a howling sound that is very distinctive. Dingoes generally eat mice, rabbits and rats, although can also attack livestock when hungry.

8 Echidna (针鼹) The Echidna is a small creature, which has a furry underside with sharp spines on its back. Echidnas live in the dry and hot desertland of Australia, as well as within the cooler climate of the Australian Alps. Echidnas catch insects to eat. They grow to about 45 cm. As a form of protection they quickly bury themselves in the ground, with only their spines sticking out of the ground.

9 Quoll (袋鼬) Quoll are nocturnal creatures, which are Australia native cats. They grow to about the size of domestic cats, and spend most of their time in trees.

10 Goanna (澳洲巨蜥) Goannas are a type of lizard found in various parts of Australia. They can grow to about 2 metres long, and can be aggressive, often making a loud hissing sound.

20 The Great Barrier Reef is the only living organic collective visible (明显可见的) from Earth ‘ s orbit (范围). it is the world's largest coral reef ecosystem

21 The Great Barrier Reef( 大堡礁 ) is not just one reef but actually a series of over 2,000 reefs stretching ( 延 伸 )for more than 2,300 kilometres. It is the world’s largest coral ( 珊瑚 ) reef. since coral reefs are also in shallow water, you can actually see them from above the water! All along the Great Barrier Reef, the color of the coral reef changes as does the color of the water, which varies from a green to a blue color.

22 The Great Barrier Reef stretches more than 2,000 kilometres along the Queensland coast, the east coast of Australia, from the mainland towns of Port Douglas to Bundaberg. The Great Barrier Reef system consists of more than 3000 reefs which range in size from 1 hectare( 公顷 ) to over 10,000 hectares in area.
