5  Signed by Governor Ricketts and enacted on 2/25/2016 (emergency clause)  Purpose of PDMP Legislation ◦ Prevent the misuse of controlled substances ◦ Allow prescribers and dispensers to monitor the care and treatment of patients to ensure prescription drugs are used for medical appropriate purposes ◦ State of Nebraska remains on the cutting edge of medical information technology  January 1, 2017 - Controlled substances dispensed  January 1, 2018 - All dispensed prescriptions

6  No patient opt out  Allow prescribers, dispensers, dispenser designees to access the PDMP at no cost  Establishes Veterinary Prescription Monitoring Program Task Force

7  February 25, 2016 – LB471 became law  June – August, 2016 – Pharmacies contacted  August – December, 2016 – Work with dispensers, pharmacies to test and submit data  October, 2016 – Training for dispensers  December, 2016- Training for prescribers  January 1, 2017 – PDMP Reporting Requirements Effective ◦ Mandatory reporting of controlled substances  January 1, 2018 – Full medication history ◦ Mandatory reporting of ALL prescriptions dispensed

8  Who has to report? ◦ Pharmacies which dispense controlled substances ◦ Physicians with a Dispensing Practitioner Pharmacy License  Is anyone exempted from the law? ◦ There are 4 exemptions in the law for 2017 ◦ ** ALL prescriptions to be submitted by January 1,2018  How do I get my data to the PDMP? ◦ Contact pharmacy system vendor ◦ Refer them to Nebraska PDMP Dispenser’s Implementation Guide  How often do I need to submit my data? ◦ Daily (within one calendar day of the prescription being dispensed)  How do I submit my dispensing data if I don’t have a pharmacy computer system ◦ Web portal  How do I use the PDMP to perform a search for my patient?
