1 ELA MS. SONI 2-29-16 * Objective: SWBAT analyze the author’s choice for choosing different techniques in order to create specific effects as evidenced from the literary techniques graphic organizer. * Topic: Analyzing Author’s Choice Lines 135-144 * EQ: How can we explain the different techniques the author utilizes in order to create specific effects in the story? * DO NOW/ Quickwrite: * How has Sergei changed over the course of the text?

2 ELA MS. SONI 2-29-16 * Objective: SWBAT analyze the author’s choice for choosing different techniques in order to create specific effects as evidenced from the literary techniques graphic organizer. * Mini lesson: * 1) I will explain to students that authors choose different techniques in order to create specific effects. For example, they may want to create mystery, tension, or even surprise. * 2) Sergei is an impulsive person because he uses his first two wishes without even thinking. However, his first two wishes were to help someone else. Just as when he hits Yoni, he has acted on impulse to protect something (the goldfish) or someone (his family) he cared about. His wishes were selfless, but hitting Yoni is selfish because he does not want to lose the magic goldfish.

3 ELA MS.
