10. SHOTCRETE WALL SURVEY Engineers asked H&A to provide survey of shotcrete wall Doubt over exact position of wall Nearby service conduits identified in design model Wanted to check location against design Irregular surface particularly suited to 3D laser scanning

11. FIELD SURVEY Leica Scan Station P20 8 scans covered 210m corridor Easily captured and downloaded field data in less than 1 day Used built in camera to colour point cloud to aid visualisation Scans connected to site datum

13. POINT CLOUD OVERLAID WITH DESIGN MODEL -Area of interest along wall shows nearby service conduits and point cloud -Point cloud looks nice but difficult to measure off

14. MESH FILES CREATED Mesh files provide a more useful output for BIM engineers Now a surface that can be used for clash detection

15. MESH OVERLAYED WITH DESIGN -Clash can be seen near stairs -Prompted re- design, saved $1000’s

ST ALBANS MONITORING CAMPAIGN Large campaign About 700 monitoring targets throughout the project Monitor various structures to facilitate safe operation of passenger rail adjacent to works Any movement in active track is of critical importance Horizontal & vertical movement measured Surveyed bi-weekly
