Assessment Overview Two Modules One Module covers the theory and is assessed by examination ( Jan and May/June) One Module is coursework which includes two tasks which will be internally assessed and externally Moderated ( April) Each Module has a 50 % weighting at AS Each Module has a 25 % weighting at A2
4
AS Specification ComponentDescription Weighing of AS Key Date(s) Data Processing Database Spreadsheet 25%April Multimedia Presentation Web Design 25%April Examination Structured Questions 50%Jan/June
5
Approaches to AS coursework Each Task will be assessed separately. Students can use one information system for both tasks. Tasks can also have different information systems. Students should consider whether they will be doing A2.
6
If the student selects the task with teacher guidance it may not allow for scope for A2 coursework as there is no real end user. If there is no potential end user within tasks then no scope for A2 as a continuation of AS. Selection of Software is centre based – think of A2 to help make decision Approaches to AS coursework

Submission of Coursework Data ProcessingMultimedia Project Folder All hard copy evidence Submit in sections as stated in Specification Electronic Format All links etc. should be working DVD/CD ( one for centre)
9
Each Candidate is a folder clearly labelled DVD is clearly Labelled with Centre Details
10
Moderators Report Majority of centres correctly applied the assessment criteria Centres made good use of the portfolio clinic in February 2010 Majority of tasks were appropriate for AS Evidence of good teacher guidance Meaningful teacher comments/annotation is useful to the Moderation team
11
Moderators Report Record sheets must be signed by teacher and candidate ( Ofqual regulation) Data processing task should be submitted in a suitable folder in clearly indicated sections Multi-media task should be submitted electronically ( CD is better than USB pen) Technical issues are the responsibility of centres Reduction in arithmetic errors !
12
Changes to Record Sheet To reduce Arithmetic errors
13
Moderators Report Data Processing Candidates who were successful were able to clearly state their User requirements Candidates need to consider all design components to achieve full marks – Charts, Macros Testing plan should include evidence of actual testing – screen dumps User documentation is of a high standard
14
Example of Testing
15
Moderators Report Multi-media Storyboard – Comprehensive and well presented including navigation Multi-media – Good range of media and assets, but technical difficulties still exist Evaluation – Appropriate reference to storyboard, suggestions for improvements, limitations considered
16
Moderators Report Why does each task have a separate Candidate Record sheet Teachers may only teach one of the tasks The task can be marked and record sheet completed before next task begins Candidates may retake module, which may involve improving only one task Candidates must submit both tasks again even though one may have no changes
17
Moderator’s Report Centres receive a TAC 6 and you can request follow up Need to consider moderator comments: “…just within tolerance…” “ …slightly generous in ….” “…lenient in the higher range of marking..” “…slightly severe across all assessment criteria…”
