District School Health Advisory Councils (SHACs) play an important role in communicating the connection between health and learning to school administrators, parents and community stakeholders. As primary partners for establishing healthy behaviors in children, SHACs can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce knowledge and skills children need to be healthy for a lifetime. Nutrition Services Initiative: Nutritional Wellness Project: Promote school gardens Goals: Exposure to new foods Increase public awareness Garden workshop for teachers Document evolution SHAC received 1,500.00 from Living Well in Coppell and donations were made to all CISD schools with gardens for supplies. Donations from Living Well in Coppell and IT’s Time Texas will support the communication and sharing of information from the Parent Tool Kit at CISD Middle Schools while promoting SHAC.

School Health Advisory Council CELEBRATIONS The CISD SHAC was invited to participate in a webinar series to share best practices across the state. Living Well in Coppell won the HEB Community Challenge for 2016. Tammy Gilstrap, Physical Education Facilitator, was selected to serve as a member of the Texas SHAC.
