Grants permission to EDHS to provide information recorded in the OSR when student is no longer attending EDHS to a future employer or post- secondary institution, i.e. course marks Due no later than Fri. Oct. 16 th to Student Services Office “Release of Information Form”

GRAD APPLICATION Graduation is a year long process Application deadline is Friday, Oct. 16 th Must be eligible to graduate by June 2016 Fee to cover graduation cost is $55.00 Complete all information requested on application Read the conditions on the application thoroughly Grad date: Wednesday, June 29 th, 2016 at EDHS (arrival at 4:30 PM, ceremony at 5:30 PM)

Community Hours 40 Hours Community Service are requested by MoE to fulfill one of the requirements OSSD Completed Community Hours form must be submitted by March 1 st Complete your community involvement document correctly and verify that the signatures are in the appropriate space Submit your completed form to Mrs. Pearce in Student Services as soon as it is completed

Community Hours (continued) Graduation Honour Cords will be awarded : Silver = 200-300 hours Silver = 200-300 hours Gold = 300-500 hours Gold = 300-500 hours Red = 500+ hours Red = 500+ hours Updated Hours must be submitted by May 1 st to be eligible for cords If hours or Grad Fee not submitted, you will not receive Grad invitations in April.

SAT Information Students interested in attending U.S. university/college SAT Website to register (must register on-line) www.collegeboard.com Dates: November 7, 2015 (register by Oct. 8 th ) January 23, 2016 May 7, 2016 Location: Kennedy C.I., 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM Preparation booklets available in Student Services. Prep courses/tutors available – see Guidance. All information is available on the website.

University/College Visits See handout to select schools you are considering Sign-up in Student Services with Mrs. Pearce and obtain an admit slip (slips will not be granted on day of presentation as destination must be verified) Do not miss tests to attend these visits Go to your class and show teacher your appointment slip but do not hand in to teacher Admit slip is required to attend presentation and will be collected so that attendance can be tracked College bound students are not eligible to apply to university presentations

UIP University Information Program DAY Date: Wednesday, November 4 th, 2015 Time:12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Location: Essex District High School Sign-up in the Student Services by Nov. 2 nd College-bound students cannot attend

CIP College Information Program DAY Date: Tue. Oct. 27 th, 9:00am –11:00am Location: St. Clair College Sign-up in Student Services bring in a note to main office or, have parent call the day before the event, or by Oct. 19 th if you want free bus (leaves at 8:30) - need field trip permission form (first 45) Do not come to the main office to sign out on the day of the event!

OUAC/OCAS Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) Ontario College Application Services (OCAS) On-Line Application Deadline: January 13 th, 2016 (OUAC) Deadline: February 1 st, 2016 (OCAS) PIN Numbers for OUAC applicants available by November No PIN numbers needed for OCAS – you create a user account A tutorial session will be conducted in November for University and College on-line Application process (students must sign-up for this tutorial in Student Services) More information will be provided as updates are received…listen to announcements. If you are not present for announcements, inquire in Student Services!

College Entrance Requirements Grade 12 Diploma (OSSD) All programs require ENG4U or 4C You must check individual programs for other requirements (usually maths/sciences) Ontario College Guide (research location of programs… www.ontariocolleges.ca ) Go to individual school calendars to acquire information for entrance into individual programs Private career colleges can be researched at: www.ontariocollegesearch.ca or www.ontario.ca/pcc

University Entrance Requirements OSSD 6 Grade 12 U/M courses, including ENG4U eINFO admission guidelines for university entrance (research location of programs, average ranges, prerequisites, new programs, additional admission criteria, campus news, scholarships…www.ouac.on.ca/101/ Research program in individual school calendars

Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Brochure available in Student Services Apprenticeship is a hands-on training program for people who want to work in skilled trades and who enjoy learning by doing Requires a High School Diploma You must find an employer who wants to hire an apprentice Contract between Ministry of Skills, employer, and trainee

Scholarships and Financial Assistance It is your responsibility to research all scholarships and financial assistance available for you List of websites provided by the GECDSB at publicboard.ca Students Scholarships publicboard.ca Students Scholarships External Scholarships - applications or advertisement available in Student Services (many based on community involvement and leadership skills) Listen to announcements All advertisements posted on bulletin board outside the Student Services Office – CHECK THESE!! Take note of deadlines

Scholarship Research University and College Entrance Awards and Scholarships Each University or College website will have awards information regarding scholarships and bursaries. These sites will tell you whether an application is required or not (also refer to eINFO and College Guide).

Ontario Student Assistance Plan - OSAP Information available on OSAP website https://osap.gov.on.ca Available early May, workshop in spring Application must be done on-line Each case is assessed individually “Estimator” feature is excellent “30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant” now available through OSAP application

Local Community Bursaries and Merit Awards Provided by community donors Applications and information provided in Spring All graduating students who are pursuing their education at a post-secondary school after graduation are welcome to apply Must read criteria for eligibility Many based on financial need and not necessarily academic excellence

ELIGIBILITY for Local Awards You must pursue your studies at a post- secondary institution in the Fall after your June graduation in order to be eligible for any scholarships/financial awards/bursaries Graduate students returning for a fifth year of high school are not eligible Awarded scholarships and bursaries are not deferred to the following year – they are forfeited

Reminders OSSD Requirements (30 credits, 40 Hours, OSSLT) – –Day school credit cap of 34 now exists… College entrance requirements University entrance requirements (six grade 12 U/M courses minimum, incl. ENG4U) Make sure you have prerequisites for programs Upgrading is allowed but credit is not counted twice! Ontario Scholar average is calculated from best six Grade 12 courses (all levels of learning considered)
