Mixed age groups to promote peer collaboration. Students have the ability to freely move throughout the classroom. Students are able to practice the method of natural completion on projects, deciding independently when they are finished working. Teacher establishes the list of content he or she wants to achieve based on standards. The lesson is typically textbook driven and majority of the instruction is given in a lecture format (Newman, 2013). The teacher usually maps out the entire learning activity and allows for little exploration of the material by the students. Traditional Classroom VS Montessori Classroom In a traditional teaching model the assessments of each students is typically done at the end of the lesson, once all of the material has been covered and the student has completed the mapped out assignment. The concern with this style of assessing progress is that the teacher is not able to intervene early and help guide the students if they have Classroom progress is based on student completion and comprehension rather than grades. Questions are highly encouraged and then independent follow of the area they wish to explore. Classroom is designed for students to be independently and creatively successful in all areas.
