Afghanistan Soviet War Late 1980s Rebels began to fight against the Soviets The United States helped Afghanistan Once Soviets retreated the US left the war as well Ruined relationship with Afghanistan Afghanistan then formed an alliance with Iran Government switched control

Afghanistan Post-Taliban Era Women are supposed to be equals (many are still stuck in their ways…) Schools are allowed again Eat mostly bread and vegetables…some meat, but it is scarce

Afghanistan Post-Taliban Era Continued… Focus on survival Harsh punishments for crimes ex- Stealing-cut off hand Kidnapping- death High maternal mortality rates because of lack of healthcare, non-certified staff, and women not being allowed to leave the house
