Extreme Weather As IWA Water Wiki (2009) explains, a flash flood covers a relatively small area, but this means the water can be very high, which is why the flood is so dangerous. It is able to lift heavy objects like cars, because of its “sudden onset and high travelling speed”. Oblack (2015) claims that Michigan is the safest place in the USA for extreme weather. She points out that it has only had up to 3 events causing 1 billion dollars’ worth of damage, which is much less than for other states.
