Goals of NYSVLS Through the New York State Virtual Learning Space, NYSED-defined learning standards, teacher resources and other curricular and instructional material will be available to administrators, teachers, teacher candidates, parents, students and the public:  Learning standards in each of the seven standards areas  Performance indicators for each standard area at all levels of education  Resource guides with core curricula  State assessment information  Learning experiences tied to the performance indicators  Instructional and curricular resources developed by districts and BOCES  Library, archive and museum resources

Phase I Goals Define a common format for existing SED content in the 7 standard areas –Learning standards –Resource guides –State assessments –Learning experiences Develop a common interface to existing SED content Define and identify application development standards for TLCF to contribute and consume SED content for later phases Provide links to TLCF sites and other related educational content Deployment of a portal, content management solution and web services Technical assistance on use of VLS

Phase II Goals Standards, standards, standards… Build on technical standards agreed on in Phase I & define application requirements Develop policies for Delegated Admin of LDAP user directory & trusted user model Select pilot application(s) for authentication model Determine/define hosting model Explore development of content as web portlet; prepare for WSRP standard Design and implement quality assurance /endorsement process Establish a “Call for Content” Expand technical assistance beyond teachers and administrators

5. Phase III Goals Build on technical standards agreed on in Phase I & II; present user with a common interface for portal applications Build on lessons learned from Phase II authentication model; expand pilot applications statewide Pilot development of content applications as web portlets; determine viability of WSRP standard Reassess hosting model viability Refine feedback mechanism to remain responsive to needs of our users
