Precalculus: We must finish by December  MAT 152. (3 credits) Analysis and interpretation of the behavior and nature of functions including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, power, absolute value, and piecewise-defined functions; systems of equations, modeling and solving real world problems. Additional topics may include matrices, combinatorics, sequences and series, and conics.  MAT 182. (3 credits) A study of measures of angles, properties of graphs of trigonometric functions, fundamental identities, addition and half-angle formulas, inverse trigonometric functions, solutions of trigonometric equations, complex numbers and properties of triangle solution.  MAT 152. 3 Calculus with Analytic Geometry I (Calc AB)  In AP Calculus AB, students study Functions, Graphs, and Limits; Derivatives and their Applications; and Integrals and their Applications. Calculus pulls together many of the concepts the students have studied in previous courses, and it also helps them to see the relevance of the material they were taught prior to Calculus. I believe that AP Calculus AB gives the students a strong foundation for the math and science courses they will take in college.  Rule of 4  Graphically, Analytically, Numerical, & Verbal  In AP Calculus AB, students study Functions, Graphs, and Limits; Derivatives and their Applications; and Integrals and their Applications. 4 Credit Options Beyond High School Dual Enrollment General Information  Must pass accuplacer to enroll- CGCC will have a representative in the cafeteria at 8:00 tonight.  The grade includes test and assignment points- good for hard working students who may ‘freeze’ on big tests.  Transfers to AZ universities; would need to check if it transferred to out of state schools. Dual Enrollment by Semester SEM 1  MAT 152 (3 credits)  College Algebra  Math 182 (3 credits)  Trigonometry SEM 2  Student earns college credit for MAT 221.  4 credits (must pass in one semester rather than 2) No time for review as we MUST finish the Precalculus by December… seek help as needed… don’t wait to get help if you are struggling!

Textbooks  Advanced Mathematical Concepts All students will get a text. There are new books getting ordered, depending upon when they arrive, we may switch over or we may just finish out the PreCalculus with the current text.  Advanced Mathematical Concepts All students will get a text. This will be for spring term. The books should be available by the time we start Calc AB.

The two words information and communication are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through." - Sydney Harris Contact and Communication o School Email  craft.Joycelyn@cusd80.com o Phone  480-424-8052 o Web-site- SchoolWires (links) o Remind 101 o Infinite Campus- Grades o Google Drive  Students will need to create a “professional” gmail account  Access to files Copyright Protection Handwritten Files  Use the cusd80 email to communicate with Mrs. Craft

Opportunities for Improvement…  Test Corrections (Calc AB ONLY)  1/3 points earned back  Must correct EVERY problem for which full credit was not awarded  Tests may NOT leave the classroom (College Board Policy)  I will assist as needed  May schedule extra time to complete test corrections  Quiz Retakes (Precalculus ONLY)  Must complete remediations before scheduling re-take.  Does not apply to formula quizzes.  Credit Awarded for Quality Completed Assignments  Office Hours: TBD (based upon my schedule and students’ schedules, this will be decided once class has commenced)  Test Corrections (Calc AB ONLY)  1/3 points earned back  Must correct EVERY problem for which full credit was not awarded  Tests may NOT leave the classroom (College Board Policy)  I will assist as needed  May schedule extra time to complete test corrections  Quiz Retakes (Precalculus ONLY)  Must complete remediations before scheduling re-take.  Does not apply to formula quizzes.  Credit Awarded for Quality Completed Assignments  Office Hours: TBD (based upon my schedule and students’ schedules, this will be decided once class has commenced)

Supplies  3 Ring Binder with dividers (may be shared with other classes)  Notes, Quizzes, AP Review  Pencils, erasers, red pen, highlighters (2+ colors), colored pencils  College Ruled and Graph Paper  Small “Sticky” Notes (I recommend 2-3 colors)  2 – 3 GRAPH composition books (2 for HW; 1 for a Personal Resource Book)  2 for HW (one for each semester)  1 for Personal Resource Book  May need more if one writes large.  TI- 83, TI-84 or TI-89 Graphing Calculator is REQUIRED  I am most familiar with the TI-84  A TI-Inspire or Casio is also acceptable (but bring your user manual!)  NO CAS or QWERTY keyboards  3 Ring Binder with dividers (may be shared with other classes)  Notes, Quizzes, AP Review  Pencils, erasers, red pen, highlighters (2+ colors), colored pencils  College Ruled and Graph Paper  Small “Sticky” Notes (I recommend 2-3 colors)  2 – 3 GRAPH composition books (2 for HW; 1 for a Personal Resource Book)  2 for HW (one for each semester)  1 for Personal Resource Book  May need more if one writes large.  TI- 83, TI-84 or TI-89 Graphing Calculator is REQUIRED  I am most familiar with the TI-84  A TI-Inspire or Casio is also acceptable (but bring your user manual!)  NO CAS or QWERTY keyboards
