YOUTH AND STUDIES Jaroslav Heyrovský was born on 20 December 1980 in Prague. He was born as the fourth of five children. In 1909 he enrolled at Charles University, where he attended lectures in chemistry, physics and mathematics. He graduated from there in two semesters. In 1910 he went to study at the University College in London. The reason was the interest in physical chemistry, which was at universities in Austria-Hungary at a low level. Studying in England he learned to experiment as simple as possible, and laboratory diary he kept in English.In 1913 he received the Bachelor of Science degree.

FAMILY In February 1926 he married MARY. Marie went in 1922 to study in Prague the Faculty of Philosophy and family Heyrovských attended. In 1929 they had a daughter Jitka, who studied chemistry at Charles University and then worked in food research. In 1932 he had a son, Michael, who was named after Heyrovsky role model - Michael Faraday. Michael Heyrovsky also studied chemistry at Charles University, then worked two years at Cambridge with Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Ronald Norrish. Then he joined as a researcher on the Polarographic Institute.

Nobel Prize He was nominated to The Nobel Prize times in total. In chemistry fourteen times (1934, 1938, 1940, 1944, 1947, 1950, 1952-1959), once in physics (1940) and the Nobel prize for physiology and medicine three times (1948, 1949, 1953). He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in December 1959 for the discovery and development of the polarograph methods of analysis. He was nominated in 1958 by previous laureates Archer John Porter Martin, Chandrasekhara Venkat Raman and other prominent scientists, chemists from Slovak universities nominated as well.
