Lightning is produced in thunderstorms when liquid and ice particles above the freezing level collide, and build up large electrical fields in the clouds. The lightning spark can occur between clouds, between the cloud and air, or between the cloud and ground. During a lightning storm, the safest place to be is in your home. 5 Lightning

FLOODS A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land. It is usually due to the volume of water within a body of water, such as a river or lake. HURRICANES A Hurricane is any wind of the strongest level. In the United States of America, Hurricane is the name assigned specifically to a tropical cyclone near the Atlantic and East Pacific basins. 6

SNOW STORMS A winter storm is an event in which the main varieties of precipitation are forms that only occur at cold temperatures such as snow or sleet Snowstorms are storms where large amounts of snow fall TORNADOES A tornado is a violently rotating column of air which is in contact with both a cumulonimbus (or, in rare cases, cumulus) cloud base and the surface of the earth. Tornadoes can come in many sizes. 7
