Vocabulary military : The armed forces of a nation economic: production, development, and management of material wealth, as of a country political: relating to the government or the public affairs of a country social: relating to human society Polis: Greek city-state Athens: city-state that focused on education and the arts Sparta: city-state that focused on military preparedness Mandate of Heaven: gods of China would have to bless the ruling dynasty, and would need the Mandate of Heaven Roman Empire: The territories ruled by ancient Rome which at one time encompassed most of the Mediterranean world and parts of France, England, and Germany. The empire lasted from 27 BCE to 395 CE. republic: A political system in which a country is ruled by law, has representative government, and is democratic in nature Senate: the most powerful governing body of ancient Rome Pax Romana : A 200 year period of relative peace throughout the Roman Empire
