2 This activity is to assist ESL and EFL students to understand the phonics of letters and letter blends. Mouse over's and clicks will activate sounds and on the quiz page activates scoring as well as sounds. After phonics there is listening for beginning sounds. 3 ough The letter blend ough has several sounds. The most used and common sounds are; ow ---- off ---- or ---- oo ---- uff ---- up ---- oh ---- u According to Quizmonster (2008) in standard English, there are 8 main or common 'oughs', but in British speech, there are 11: ooch, oo, uff, oh, ow, aw, e, och, off, up and ock.
