What Is The Appalachian Trail? The Appalachian Trail is a continuous marked footpath that goes from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, It crosses through 13 states

Who & When The Appalachian Trail was the "brainchild" of Benton MacKaye, educated as a forester, who proposed connecting thread of already existing trails. 1921 he published his idea 1937 The Appalachian Trail was completed

Walking the Trail Walking the entire trail is called a thru-hike It takes between 5- 7 months to walk Most people start in April from Georgia – to avoid heavy snow and hurricanes There are no fees for walking – but the thru hike costs between $2500-$4500 to complete –T–This includes supplies, food, some off trail lodging and restaurant meals, and showers

Walking the Trail Continued There are no animals or wheeled vehicles allowed on most of the trail. It is Risky: Lyme Disease, water-bacteria infections, falls, fractures, and dehydration are common health risks The Trail is maintained by volunteers who have made many travel shelters for hikers

Answer If you walked 10 miles a day, it would take you 216 days or 7.2 months to complete the Appalachian Trail. If you walked 15 miles a day, it would take 144 days or 5 months to complete the Appalachian Trail
