6. GRAND RIDGE EL. EXPECTED BEHAVIORS Be Safe Be Responsible Be Respectful One way that we recognize, reinforce and celebrate positive behavior as an entire school is through individual students or whole classrooms earning “Grizzly Gold,” (a wooden coin). Students earn this by showing EXPECTED behaviors – not for going above and beyond

7. Positive Reinforcement System: Grizzly Gold Each class has a Grizzly Token Jar (glass jar with paw print) Tokens are wooden nickels – i.e. Grizzly Tokens Classroom teachers, EAs, secretaries, lunchroom staff, specialists, custodian, Dean and Principal will have Grizzly Tokens Grizzly Tokens will be given out either to individuals or whole class Tokens go into class jar Once class jar gets filled with predetermined number of tokens, the class gets to choose from a menu of rewards Jar is emptied and the class starts over in accumulating Grizzly Tokens

11. HOW CAN YOU USE GRAND RIDGE BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS AT HOME? Ideas?  Post words on fridge  Recognize when your child shows: safety, respect, and responsibility  Do a reward system where children can have a sticker chart for when they demonstrate being respectful, responsible, and safe. Work up to earn reward: special play time, date with mom/dad, etc.

13. HOW CAN YOU USE BIG DEAL/LITTLE DEAL AT HOME? Ideas?  Post poster on fridge  Use when a student is overly upset about an event or situation  Name your own “events/situations” as a “Big Deal/Little Deals” –attach meaning  Praise/recognize when your child is able to stay calm during a “little deal”  Do T-chart sort with words or pictures of Big Deal/Little Deal

15. UNEXPECTED VS. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR People want to be around other people who make them feel pleasant— have good thoughts of you when they think of you. Showing expected behaviors at school/home help with these thoughts.

18. HOW CAN YOU USE UNEXPECTED/EXPECTED BEHAVIOR LANGUAGE AT HOME? Ideas?  Post poster on fridge  Help label behaviors for students: simple statement—five words or less.  Name your own behavior as “Unexpected/Expected”—during or after event.  T-chart sort with words or pictures of Unexpected/Expected

19. COMMON VOICE LEVEL LANGUAGE Used in all classrooms and posted on all common behavior posters in school Simple visual cue

20. HOW CAN YOU USE VOICE LEVEL LANGUAGE AT HOME? Ideas?  Post poster on fridge  Discuss what voice levels are expected at different times of day at home, e.g. dinner table, playing outside, homework time, reading, etc.  Positively reinforce when child demonstrates expected voice level
